UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) track and field program competed at the 2025 SVSU Jet's Pizza Invitational on Friday and Saturday with 16 athletes earning new personal records.
Lindsey Tonello (Cadillac, Mich.) opened the day on the women's side with a personal best time of 27.33 in the 200-meter dash, and she also recorded a second individual record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.20.
Madison Morgan (Chelsea, Mich.) and Keira Lamming (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) each set a new personal record in the 800-meter race with respective times of 2:28.79 and 2:39.25.
Olivia Peter (Cass City, Mich.) earned a personal best in the women's mile with a time of 5:40.71 while senior Sydney Kapushinski (Imlay City, Mich.) was not far behind, crossing the finish line less than a second later.
Sarah McDaniel (Manistique, Mich.) and Jessa Davis (Birch Run, Mich.) each set personal records in the 3000-meter run with respective times of 12:23.46 and 13:15.56, and in the 5000-meter run, Noel Black (Otsego, Minn.) placed 8th overall with a time of 18:24.64 while Izzy Yeoman (Genesee, Mich.) was only 6 seconds behind to place 12th in the event.
Giselle Wiitanen (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) and Lamming tied for 11th place in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.42m with Wiitanen marking a new personal best in the event.
Janelle Docter (Howard City, Mich.) would then use a personal record throw of 13.91m in the weight throw to secure a seventh place finish in the event.
On the men's side, Michael Featherstone (Constantine, Mich.) earned a personal best time of 54.92 in the 400-meter dash, and the Laker men recorded three personal bests in the 800-meter run from Gary Haight (Charlevoix, Mich.), Ethan Meehle (Midland, Mich.) and Collin Featherstone (Constantine, Mich.). However, Gavin Guggemos paced the group with a time of 1:55.89 for an eighth place finish in the event.
Guggemos would then go on to lead his team in the mile run with a time of 4:21.94, and Meehle earned his second personal record of the meet with a time of 4:42.57.
Brody Crandall and Derrian Kumfer (Romeo, Mich.) each set personal bests in the men's 3000-meter run with respective times of 9:36.33 and 9:44.24.
Rayce Rizzo and Noah Murray (Macomb, Mich.) each placed in the top-ten in the pole vault, led by Rizzo's clearance of 4.18m which was good enough for seventh place.
Terry Sigler notched a personal best throw of 10.10m in the shot put, and Ethan Ring donned the PR chain after a toss of 10.66 in the weight throw.
The Lakers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they travel to Grand Valley State for the GVSU Big Meet Saturday.
