Laker Men's Basketball Fall to DBU in Elite Eight

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Lake Superior State (LSSU) Lakers (30-7) saw their season come to a close at the hands of the Dallas Baptist (DBU) Patriots (34-4) in the Elite Eight on Tuesday.

DBU was able to get on the board first, but the Lakers countered with an 8-0 run that featured threes from Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Andy Soma (Traverse City, Mich.). The Patriots were able to trim the gap back down to one, but Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) was ready with the answer. Multiple buckets inside by Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and a three from Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) would then help extend the lead out to as many as nine with just under seven minutes remaining in the opening half. However, despite another three from Edmondson, DBU managed to end the half on a 7-0 run in the final two minutes to close back within one as LSSU led 38-37 at the break.

The Patriots came out of the gate strong to start the second half, opening up a 15-point lead despite a three from Womack. Edmondson would then start to heat up from distance with multiple threes to help his team chip away at the lead, and with under nine minutes to play, Soper would drill a three of his own to get back to within two. However, DBU was able to respond and ultimately close out the game to secure a spot in the final four and bring the winningest season in LSSU men's basketball history to a close.

Womack led the way offensively for the Lakers with 20 points on the day while Edmondson recorded 17 points of his own. Meanwhile, Soper posted 13 points and a game-high 9 rebounds. Adam Harakow (Edmonton, Alta.) and Perkins would round out the five double-figure scorers for the Lakers with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
