PREVIEW: Laker Hockey to Face Minnesota State to Open Mason Cup Playoffs

SAULT STE. MARIE, - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) Lakers are set to open the Mason Cup Playoffs by facing the top-seeded Mavericks of Minnesota State. 

Stories to watch:
  • Minnesota State claimed all four meetings against the Lakers this season, but the two battles in Mankato proved to be intense with the first game being decided by a goal in the final minutes while the second required overtime.
  • The Mavericks are led by the league's leader in points in Rhett Pitlick (37) who is averaging just over a point per game. 
  • Minnesota State also boasts strong goaltending in Richter Finalist Alex Tracy with a GAA of 1.45 and a save percentage of .945, both of which lead the nation.
  • Connor Milburn enters the weekend leading the team in points with 22 while Timo Bakos (21), Sasha Teleguine (19), Nate Schweitzer (18), Dawson Tritt (17), John Herrington (17), Branden Piku (16), Evan Bushy (14), Luke Levandowski (13),  Reagan Milburn (12), William Ahlrik (12), Johnny Druskinis (11), and Jacob Conrad (10) have also notched double-digit points so far this season.
  • Teleguine is currently having a break out season in scoring as he ranks fourth in the CCHA for goal scoring with 14, including a 4-goal weekend against Bemidji State. 
  • Schweitzer enters the weekend leading the team in assists with 15. 
  • 22 different Lakers have recorded at least one point so far this season while 15 Lakers have scored at least one goal.
