Laker Men's Basketball Fall to NMU in GLIAC Final

HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's basketball team (27-6) fell to the Northern Michigan Wildcats (22-9) by a final score of 78-63 in the GLIAC Tournament Final on Sunday.

The Wildcats got out to an early advantage, racing to a 10-2 lead. The Lakers would keep battling, and they were twice able to get the score back within 5. However, NMU managed to pull ahead, taking a 22-point lead into the halftime break.

The Lakers came out swinging to start the second half, fighting back with a 12-2 run that featured an and-one from Andy Soma (Traverse City, Mich.) and was capped off with a three from Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.). LSSU continued to make a push, twice trimming the lead back down to single digits, but ultimately, the strong opening half from NMU proved to be too much to overcome as the Wildcats held on to win the GLIAC Tournament and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Midwest Regional.

Despite the loss, Edmondson led the Lakers in scoring with 19 points on the day while Adam Harakow (Edmonton, Alta.) also finished in double-figures with 13 points of his own.

Edmondson and Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) would both then be named to the 2025 GLIAC All-Tournament Team following the game.

The Lakers now await the NCAA DII Men's Basketball Selection Show which is scheduled for 11 p.m. on ncaa.com
