SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State University (LSSU) Director of Athletics Tory Lindley and Head Hockey Coach Damon Whitten announce the appointment of Liam Cound as Head Sports Performance Coach. Cound will primarily oversee the comprehensive sports performance program for the NCAA Division I ice hockey team, marking his return to the LSSU athletic department.

Cound brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of optimizing athlete performance. Most recently, Cound spent the 2024-25 season as the Head Sports Performance Coach at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, where he worked with their Division I men's ice hockey program. During his tenure at UMass-Lowell, he managed all aspects of sports performance for the hockey team, leveraging technology to precisely evaluate athlete workload and readiness.

"We are thrilled to welcome Liam back to The Soo," said LSSU Director of Athletics Tory Lindley. "His expertise and dedication to athlete development will be invaluable as we continue to elevate our hockey program. Liam's prior experience with our athletes, coupled with his work at a respected Division I program like UMass-Lowell, makes him an ideal fit for this crucial role."

Head Hockey Coach Damon Whitten added, "Liam's return is a significant asset to our Laker hockey program. His innovative approach to sports performance, understanding of the demands of elite hockey, and commitment to player welfare will undoubtedly contribute to our success on and off the ice.
