Lake Superior State's long road trip ended with a trip to Purdue-Northwest on Saturday afternoon.

The Pride (6-4, 3-1 GLIAC) beat the Lakers (0-8, 0-4 GLIAC) in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-18 at the HD Kesling Gymnasium in Westville, IN.

Caitlyn Matelski excelled for the Lakers, scoring a career-high eight kills with no attacking errors on 12 swings. The rookie right-side hitter from Boyne Falls, MI added a solo block and a block assist in a tremendous performance.

Morgan Deming continued her strong weekend for LSSU. The 6'3" middle hitter had eight kills on Thursday against Saginaw Valley State and added another four on Saturday at the Pride. She hit .375 in the match, a season high.

Senior setter Vanessa Swerdon continued her run of strong play. She dealt 11 assists and struck for two service aces without committing an error in any category. Saturday's match against the Pride was the third time this season that Swerdon registered zero errors. She's only committed two passing errors in total this season, registering perfect passing stats in seven matches.

Despite those efficient performances, the Pride rarely trailed in the match. They went on a lengthy run to open the match, converting it into a first set win. While the Lakers took initial leads in the second and third sets, the Pride quickly wrestled the advantage back and didn't trail again in either set.

The Lakers head home to the Bud Cooper Gymnasium for the first time this season for a Friday night match against Michigan Tech (5-6, 2-2 GLIAC). Play begins at 7:00 PM. Then on Saturday, the Lakers continue their U.P. rivalry weekend against Northern Michigan (2-9, 1-2 GLIAC). Buy your tickets now.
