Box Score You shoot 62% in a half of basketball and you're going to win a few games.
Lake Superior State went into the half tied in a low-scoring game with Purdue Northwest, then shot the lights out at the Bud Cooper Gymnasium in the second half, taking a decisive 85-68 win over the Pride.
Harrison Sorrelle had a day, scoring 21 points in the second half for LSSU (7-5, 1-2 GLIAC). For the game, he scored 27 points on 7-of-11 shooting, 11-of-13 at the free throw line. He grabbed four rebounds, passed for three assists and stole a ball as well. The Lakers shot the ball with ruthless efficiency and defended just as well, holding Purdue Northwest (5-5, 1-2 GLIAC) to just 35% from the floor in the second half.Â
Omar Suleiman scored 19, hitting four triples in the game. He also tallied six assists with three rebounds. One of the best scorers in the GLIAC, he stretched and collapsed the Pride defense scoring when the defense dropped off of him and distributing when they collapsed. His excellent court vision played a key role in the Lakers 58-41 second half.
Nino Carter-Smith's passing dazzled for the Lakers as well. His four assists were marvelous, and he had several passes that created an assist for somebody else. Carter-Smith's passing of the highest quality drove the Lakers offense for stretches of the second half, and he played tremendous defense as well. He recorded one steal, while contesting passing lanes and bothering jump shooters. The junior also snatched five rebounds.
Lake State shot a remarkable 17-of-18 from the free throw line in the second half as a team.
The first half saw a physical scrap between two teams intent on asserting their will over each other. But when the Lakers came out with extra jump in the second half, Purdue Northwest struggled to keep up with the pace. The physicality between the teams remained, though, and 46 combined fouls were called.
