Karter Richards shot 50% or better from the field for Lake Superior State. The redshirt freshman doesn't just score - he gets the job done with efficiency.
In a 79-73 road win over Saginaw Valley State (9-8, 3-6 GLIAC) on Thursday, Richards scored 16 points from the bench on 8-of-10 shooting. He put LSSU (9-9, 3-6 GLIAC) in the lead for good with a layup with 4:11 remaining in the game. He broke a 59-59 tie and the Lakers closed out the game with a big triple by
Omar Suleiman and good free throw shooting as a team.
Suleiman shot well, scoring 14 points. All four of his field goal makes were from three, and he added four rebounds, two blocks and a steal. He also went 2-for-3 from the free throw line.
While the two teams dueled in the first half, the Lakers took a three point edge into the locker room. After a three by SVSU's Dontez Scott II with 3:44 left in the half put the Cardinals up 27-24, the Lakers answered with a triple by
Drew Hess. Moments later,
Robin Benipal stole the ball from the Cardinals, and
Harrison Sorrelle found an open Hess for another three. LSSU went up 30-27 and never trailed in the game again.
Lake State shot 44.3% from the field in the game and held the Cardinals to under 40% shooting. The Lakers also hit 10 threes and outscoring SVSUÂ 34-28 in the paint.
