Box Score William Ahlrik scored his seventh goal of the season for Lake Superior State, continuing his fantastic sophomore campaign. But the Lakers dropped a 4-1 result to #16 Augustana at Midco Arena in Sioux Falls, SD Saturday night.
Ahlrik's goal came midway through the second period on a gorgeous pass through the slot by
Hunter Ramos. The talented freshman zipped a precise pass from the right circle to Ahlrik, who banged home a backdoor tap-in to get the Lakers on the board. Ramos picked up his sixth assist of the season, while Ahlrik tallied his 19th point.
"It was a good play," said Laker Head Coach
Damon Whitten. "A skilled play. We had an extra forward dressed, and we were looking for some guys who could get us going, and those guys did it with some speed and some skill. That was a great skill play there. Good to see Ahlrik have another strong weekend. I thought it was another good weekend for
William Ahlrik overall."
Calem Mangone picked up an assist on the goal, his 19th point of the year. He and Ahlrik share the team lead in scoring.
The Lakers (9-18-1, 6-14-0 CCHA) put 31 shots on target against the Vikings (18-7-3, 12-5-2 CCHA), while
Rorke Applebee made 23 saves for Lake State. Like on Friday night, the Lakers excelled in the faceoff circle, winning that battle 32-26.
Owen Bohn scored twice for the Vikings, including the late empty-netter.
"That's a good hockey team," Whitten said. "You've got to give them credit. They have good pace, they defend well and hard."
