Volleyball: Three Lakers Set Season-Highs in Dominant Win at Roosevelt

Shea Berisoff hit for  a .471 attacking percentage with 10 kills, Zaira Missipo scored nine kills and Avery Headworth passed for 18 assists. These three Lakers each tallied season highs a straight sets win over Roosevelt at the Lillian and Larry Goodman Center in Chicago, IL on Saturday evening, 25-20, 25-22, 25-22.

"It feels pretty good," said Cooke-Tripp. "Roosevelt has been doing pretty well. We went out there and played confident. A road win is always good."

Berisoff and Rachel Steele each smashed ten kills for LSSU (4-14, 1-10 GLIAC), and the Lakers hit for .259 as a team, just off of their season-high .265 mark against Kentucky State in early September. Missipo hit .316, Morgan Deming hit .313, and Steele posted a .300 attack percentage, as the Lakers ran behind a varied offense against Roosevelt (5-12, 2-8 GLIAC).

"Having Rach and Shea on the right side was a big big help today," stated Cooke-Tripp. "Zaira did very well too."

Deming had seven kills and two solo blocks on the evening for LSSU. She assisted two more blocks. Deming historically has performed well against Roosevelt - she totaled 10 blocks in a match against Roosevelt at the Bud Cooper Gym on September 20th, 2024. "She does her job when she goes out there," added Cooke-Tripp, who praised the fourth-year middle's consistency.

Second-year Ava Wells added 15 digs and three service aces for Lake State, leading all Lakers in both categories. First-year Azra Bilgiçer finished with 16 assists for the match.

Next week, the Lakers travel back to Hammond, IN to compete at the Midwest Regional Crossover on October 16th and 17th. They won't find out who their opponents will be until early in the week.

"'It could be a really good learning opportunity for us going into the crossover get some other experience for us heading into the rest of our conference games," said Cooke-Tripp.

After Crossover, Lake State returns home to host Purdue Northwest on October 23rd. Download the new Lake Superior State Lakers mobile app to follow the team all season long, now available on the App Store and Google Play.
