Lake Superior State capped off Great Lake State Week on Saturday afternoon, hosting #1 Ferris State. Elisa Rizzoli led the Lakers in kills for the 15th time this season but the Lakers dropped the match in straight sets to the Bulldogs, 25-10, 25-8, 25-17.
The second-year Rizzoli maintained her consistency for the Lakers (5-19, 1-11 GLIAC) against the Bulldogs (23-0, 12-0 GLIAC) in Saturday's match. The Outside Hitter now sits at 214 kills total on the season and counting.
Third-year L/DS Mia Garcia led the way in digs for the Lakers, tallying 11 against the Bulldogs. It was her fifth time finishing with double-digit digs for a match this season.
After the second set, Lake Superior State recognized several volleyball alumni in attendance. As part of Great Lake State Week, the Lakers proudly welcomed back many former greats. The alums created a great atmosphere, leading a noisy crowd at Bud Cooper Gymnasium throughout the match.
Next weekend, the Lakers hit the road for the final time this season. Friday, they travel to Grand Rapids, MI to face the Davenport Panthers with first serve set for 6:00 PM. A day later, they travel back north with a stop at Saginaw Valley State to face the Cardinals, set for 4:00 PM.
