Lauren Wilder logged a career-high 23 points and shot 15-of-16 from the charity stripe in Lake Superior State's second game at the Justagame Classic on Saturday afternoon. But the Lakers fell to the #7 Minnesota State Mavericks, 110-76.
Wilder shot over 57% from the field, over 93% at the free throw line and added three rebounds in the matchup. She scored 13 points the day prior, and is now averaging 18 points per contest in the season's first weekend.
The Mavericks were ahead by as much as 13 with 2:39 left to go in the first quarter of action, but a layup by Lilly Thelen and eight-straight points by Chloe Watson helped the Lakers cut the lead to three ending the frame on a 10-0 run, 26-23. Watson scored 13 on Saturday, after a 15-point effort against Truman State on Friday.
The Lakers competed against one of the top teams in the country, showing their ability to score by hitting 42.6% of their shots and covering 29 of 33 free throw attempts.
Tomorrow, LSSU wraps up tournament play as they face Central Missouri with tip-off set for 10:00 AM ET. Follow the Lakers throughout the season on the new Lake Superior State Lakers app, now available on the App Store and Google Play.
