Lake Superior State finished the opening weekend of GLIAC play at Wisconsin Parkside, dropping a straight sets result on Saturday night, 25-13, 25-12, 25-18.

The Lakers (3-7, 0-2 GLIAC) got seven kills from Rachel Steele, who led the team with 23 swings against the Rangers (7-2, 1-1 GLIAC). She also notched a service ace and three digs for Lake State. Ava Tarsi excelled in distribution, passing for 13 assists. She also delivered a service ace and totaled eight digs.

Elisa Rizzoli scored six kills and assisted two blocks. Caitlyn Matelski returned to the lineup with four kills on 21 hits.

The Lakers opened the match with a pair of kills by Steele. She scored four kills in the first set, providing a quality offensive display.

Rizzoli sparked the Laker offense in the middle of the third set. Down 15-10, she scored a big kill and the Lakers proceeded to take five of the next eight points. She scored three kills, Steele scored another and the defense forced Parkside into an attacking error. Throughout the early weeks of the season, Head Coach Chelsea Cooke-Tripp has praised Rizzoli's attacking ability, noting her excellent power.

LSSU hit .242 in the third set, scoring 11 kills with just three attacking errors.

The Lakers head home on Friday to face Saginaw Valley State on Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night. The match starts at 6:00 PM for the Lakers home opener.
