Box Score Lake Superior State competed in its third straight home match against a tough Wisconsin Parkside Friday night in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. Despite scoring four service aces in the second, the Lakers dropped the result in straight sets, 25-8, 25-23, 25-15.
The Lakers (3-10, 0-5 GLIAC) were led by five kills by Elisa Rizzoli against Parkside (9-3, 3-2 GLIAC). This match marked Rizzoli's eighth time leading the team in kills this season.
"Eli is a gritty kid that wants to go out there and push herself," said Laker Head Coach Chelsea Cooke-Tripp. The Second-Year RS continues to lead the Lakers offensively this year with her play.
Lake State trailed 6-3 early in the second set but managed to tie the game back up at 14-14. The Lakers then took a three point lead 19-16, sparked by two service aces from Mia Garcia and a kill by Gia Waters.
Garcia had a season-high three service aces and finished with 10 digs for LSSU.
Waters also tallied 10 digs for the Lakers during the match.
Morgan Deming scored four kills on 10 hits for Lake State, adding a solo block and two block assists. She continues to excel in the middle with her consistency, regularly altering the opposition's plans of attack.
The Lakers travel tomorrow to Big Rapids to face off against #1 Ferris State. That match starts at 6:00 PM.
"Expect to play hard," said Cooke-Tripp. "That's what I told the players in the locker room. It's going to be a battle. Ferris is a great team."
