Austin Morgan joins the Lakers coaching staff for the 2025-26 season, his first year as a college basketball coach. He brings a strong background in player development from his time at Grand Ledge High School and Potterville High School, where he was head coach for a season. A Northwood University graduate, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management, Austin had previously spent a year at Olivet College. In that one campaign, he played with fellow Laker basketball coach Cameron Ramos, a childhood friend. Their strong personal and working relationship was a big factor in Head Coach Steve Hettinga's desire to bring Austin to Sault Ste. Marie.

"I like the group we have," Morgan said. "They work extremely hard and want to live in the gym. That's the kind of team I feel most comfortable working with. And working for Coach Hettinga, with his incredible resume, is a huge step in my career. He's not just a great recruiter for players, he's shown a great eye for developing coaches, too. Getting to work with Cameron again is going to be amazing, too."

Austin coached the Potterville Vikings boys basketball team in 2024/25, after five years as a head varsity assistant/freshman head coach at Grand Ledge. A native of Charlotte, MI, he graduated from Charlotte High School in 2018. His parents, Jodie and Derrick Morgan still live in Charlotte.
