Ryan Shelley

Ryan Shelley was named General Manager of the Lake Superior State men’s hockey program in 2025. In this role, he assists in recruiting efforts, oversees goaltender
development, supports the team’s penalty kill, and integrates advanced analytics into roster management and game preparation. He also continues to contribute to practice design, video pre-scouts, in-game analysis, and community outreach—responsibilities he began during his first season with the Lakers as an assistant coach.

Before coming to Lake State, Shelley served as associate head coach of the Maine Nordiques in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). He oversaw the defense and special teams, guided the penalty kill to an 82% success rate in the regular season and 89% in the playoffs, and helped the Nordiques to back-to-back East Division Finals appearances while also leading the club to its best record in franchise history. He began his Nordiques tenure in the NA3HL with Lewiston-Auburn before transitioning into an assistant coach role with both the Maine Nordiques U16 and U18 AAA teams, eventually moving up to the NAHL staff as an assistant before becoming associate head coach.

As a player, Shelley was a goaltender at the University of Maine (NCAA Division I) and Framingham State (NCAA Division III). He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Intermedial Art Design from the University of Maine and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with minors in English and Secondary Education. He is married to his wife, Amber Kimberly Meagher Shelley.
