Biography

One of the great leaders in Laker history, Grant Hindman's strength of character stood out well before he earned a letter on his sweater. While many of his teammates came in overaged from junior hockey, Hindman enrolled at LSSU at age 18 and dug himself into the Laker lineup. He played in 24 games his freshman year, taking just 10 penalty minutes and impressing observers with his attention to defensive detail. Unafraid to play the body against larger, older players, Hindman dedicated himself to eliminating one of those factors - he maintained an immaculate physique and became incredibly strong during his upperclass seasons, able to play rough-and-tumble hockey against any-and-all comers. As he grew into college hockey, he earned considerable praise for his leadership, commitment and dedication to his own craft and those around him.

Though a bull on the ice, Hindman earned a reputation as a kind, thoughtful leader away from hockey. A steadfast Christian, he regularly led discussions among his teammates and was one of the first to lead members of the team in center ice postgame prayer circles, which quickly involved members of opposition teams. Hindman's kindness and attention to detail often led him to care for the well-being of those in the community around him, and he displayed a maturity uncommon in people twice his age.

Whatever the results on the ice, Hindman stood out as a leader of men, the type of person people wanted to follow and be inspired by.
