Biography

Junior (2022-23): Did not compete... Named to the 2023 CCHA All-Academic Team.

Sophomore (2021-22): Played in seven games for the Lakers.

Freshman (2020-21): Played in one game for the Lakers… Made his collegiate debut on Nov. 21 against Michigan Tech.

High School/Juniors: Played four years of junior hockey split between the North American Hockey League (NAHL), the United States Hockey League (USHL) and the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL)... Played 14 games in the NAHL during the 2016-17 season, split between the Kenai River Brown Bears (two games) and the Springfield Jr. Blues (12 games)... Posted eight points (3G, 5A) in 12 games with the Blues.... Began the 2017-18 season playing four games for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the USHL and four games for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL before rejoining the Springfield Jr. Blues for the rest of the season… Totaled nine points (6G, 3A) in 27 games with the Blues in 2017-18… Split the 2018-19 with the Blues and the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL… Compiled eight points (4G, 4A) in 24 games with the Blues and two goals in 17 games with Spruce Kings… Member of the Fred Page Cup and Doyle Cup Championship team withthe Spruce Kings… Finished his junior hockey career with the Johnstown Tomahawks of the NAHL during the 2019-20 season… Had his best offensive season with the Tomahawks, posting 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points in 44 games… Spent the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons playing for the Soo Indians in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

Personal: Son of Dirk and Michelle DenBeste… Born in Marquette, Mich... A 2017 graduate of Marquette Senior High School in Marquette, Mich… Hobbies include fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors...  Majoring in finance & economics. 

Head Coach Damon Whitten on what Spencer will bring to the Lakers: “Joining Chase Gamelin and Ashton Calder as a native Yooper, Spencer Denbeste is a strong forward with good size.   Spencer plays a fast game and competes hard. The Marquette, MI native spent two years playing for the Soo Indians where he used a quick release and hard shot to be an offensive leader.  Spencer finished his junior career with the Johnstown Tomahawks in the NAHL”
