After graduating from LSSU, Stephen spent the rest of the 2010s playing professional hockey. He finished the 2014-15 season with the Tulsa Oilers of the ECHL, then competed for the Alaska Aces during the next two campaigns. Stephen spent time in the AHL with San Antonio and Milwaukee, with a stint at Rögle BK in 2017-18. During the 2018-19 season, he played for the Oilers again, appearing in 16 games. During that season, Tulsa rostered fellow Laker alums Steve Kaunisto, Eric Drapluk and Alex Globke.
Senior (2014-15): An Assistant Captain for Lake Superior State. Scored his first two goals of the season against Notre Dame on the road in back-to-back nights (10/17-18)... Netted the overtime game-winning goal over Alaska (11/22)... Netted a shorthanded goal during a 3-1 win over No. 6-ranked Bowling Green on the road (1/23)... Scored the team’s lone goal, a short handed goal, in a 3-1 loss to Bowling Green (11/24).
Junior (2013-14): Tallied a four-point game during LSSU’s 6-5 overtime win at Union (10/18). His lone goal was the game-winner. The last time a Laker notched four points in a game was Dec. 10, 2011...Completed a five point weekend at Union with a solo assist during Saturday’s 3-2 win (10/19)...Scored the winning shootout goal during LSSU’s 3-3 tie, 3-2 shootout win at Wisconsin and added one assist (11/1)...Tallied a single assist on the Lakers’ game-winning goal and was a +3 during LSSU’s 5-3 win at MTU (11/15)...Netted two assists during LSSU’s 3-2 win at Bemidji State (11/22)... Totaled 2-1--3 during LSSU’s 5-2 and 3-1 home losses to Bemidji State (1/10-11)... Scored a third period goal against Alaska-Anchorage during a 5-2 loss (2/8)... Scored a goal against NMU in the Friday victory (2/14)... Score the game-winning goal against UAH Friday (Feb. 21) and also the game-tying goal in the second period of the Saturday (Feb.22) night series finale...Finished fifth on the Lakers in points with 7-13--20....Finished fourth on the Lakers in goals and assists with seven and 13 respectively.
Sophomore (2012-13): Recorded multiple-point games against Michigan Tech (10/11), Ferris State (11/9), Northern Michigan (12/14) and Alaska (2/16)...Finished with a season-high 1-2-3 during the NMU home series (12/14-15)...Tallied a short-handed, unassisted game-winning goal during a 3-0 win at NMU (3/2).
Freshman (2011-12): Led LSSU and tied for first in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in short-handed goals with three...Led the CCHA in short-handed points with 3-1--4...Tallied his first collegiate goal (a short-handed goal) during a 4-2 victory over Canisius (11/20).
Prior to LSSU:Totaled 16-17--33 during 31 regular-season games and added 9-10--19 and two game-winning goals during 19 playoff games for the Kingston Voyageurs of the Ontario Junior Hockey League in 2010-11...Kingston was 31-11-8-3 during the regular season and 11-8 during the 2011 playoffs, losing in the semifinals...Contributed 26-46--72 54 games for the OJHL’s Georgetown Raiders in 2009-10.
