After leaving LSSU, Trotman established himself as a solid blueliner for the Bruins and made his NHL debut for Boston in 2013-14, appearing in two games. He wrapped up his playing career after the 2020-21 season, spending much of his career splitting time at the NHL and AHL levels. He left Boston's organization after the 2015-16 season and spent one season with the AHL's Ontario Reign. In 2017-18, he signed for Pittsburgh's organization, spending time with AHL Wilkes-Barrie/Scranton and the NHL club. He remained with the Penguins system until he retired from playing hockey.
Trotman's wife, Jeanna (Radzinski) Trotman earned the 2024 Paul E. Ripley Award for Young Alumni, presented to graduates who have enjoyed exceptional personal and professional success early in their careers. She was a four-year volleyball player at LSSU who worked professionally in the broadcasting field. She was a television personality in the metro Detroit market, working for WXYZ-TV. The Trotmans married in 2017 after meeting as student-athletes at Lake Superior State.
Junior (2011-12): An Assistant Captain for LSSU who scored 11 goals and 10 assists. Signed a professional contract with the Providence Bruins of the AHL and played nine games to finish 2011-12.
Sophomore (2010-11): Tied for seventh in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in overall defenseman scoring and tied for eighth in that category during games against league opponents.. .Finished eighth in All-CCHA voting... Opened the season with 3-1--4 during his first three outings... Recording multiple-point games against Notre Dame (10/14), Colgate (10/23), Western Michigan (1/21) and Northern Michigan (2/4), including three assists during a 4-1 victory over the Wildcats... Tallied his first career short-handed goal during a 6-3 loss at the Denver Cup (11/26)... Was fourth on the team in power-play points with 2-6--8 and third in blocked shots with 57.
Freshman (2009-10):Was picked in the seventh round, 210th overall, by the Boston Bruins during the 2010 National Hockey League Draft held in June 2010... Scored his first collegiate goal and added an assist during a 7-6 win at Robert Morris (1/2)... Also scored LSSU’s lone goal during a 1-1 tie with Notre Dame (1/23)... Totaled two goals and three assists during eight games in January... Received votes on the Michigancollegehockey.com All-Rookie Team and honorable mention on the Central Collegiate Hockey Association All-Rookie Team.
Prior to LSSU:Â Contributed two goals and four assists in 47 regular-season games for the Wichita Falls Wildcats (24-25-0-9) of the North American Hockey League. After having a plus-minus rating of -4 during the regular season, he was +7 with a goal and an assist during five playoff games.
