ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. - Former Lake Superior State forward
Bates Battaglia was a member of the 2013 class inducted into the
Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame on Sunday at the Belvedere Banquet
Hall.
Battaglia, a Chicago native, totaled 31-64--95 while playing at
LSSU from 1994-97. He was chosen the Central Collegiate Hockey
Association's Best Defensive Forward in 1996 and was named to the
CCHA All-Tournament Team in 1995.
Battaglia enjoyed a successful 15-year professional hockey
career, which included stints with the Carolina Hurricanes,
Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs. He
made a Stanley Cup finals appearance with Carolina in 2002.
Last May, Battaglia and his brother, Tony, won the 22nd edition
of CBS's The Amazing Race.
The late Tim Breslin, who played at LSSU from 1987-91 and was a
member of LSSU's 1988 NCAA Championship team, was inducted in
2012.
