COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State outscored Lake
Superior State 3-1 in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and
salvage a split during the weekend's Central Collegiate Hockey
Association series.
OSU (1-2-1 overall, 1-2-1-1 CCHA) scored two goals 24 seconds
apart midway through the third period to come back from a 2-1
deficit. The Buckeyes added an empty-net goal at 19:13 to win the
game 4-2 and avenge Friday's 7-3 loss.
LSSU (1-2-1 overall, 1-1-0 CCHA) led 1-0 early in the first
period when Steven Kaunisto scored an even-strength goal at 7:29 of
the first period. Carter Lee and Josh Sim were credited with
assists.
The Buckeyes tied it, 1-1, at 11:16 of the second period when
Zac Dalpe scored the first of his two goals. He also tallied the
empty-netter.
Laker Zac MacVoy made it 2-1 at 6:42 of the third period,
extending his point streak to four straight games. Dillin
Stonehouse had the only assist.
LSSU, which has split three straight series with OSU, finished
0-for-5 on the power play, while Ohio State was 1-for-4.
"I thought it was a tough game tonight," LSSU coach Jim Roque
said. "We had opportunities. We were tied on the road going
into the third, so we can't hang our heads on that. It's tough
winning on the road in this league so I'm not too displeased.
"They made the plays that won the game. At the end of the night
we were 0-for-5 on power plays, and the team that converts power
plays usually wins."
Laker goaltender Pat Inglis (0-1-1) totaled 33 saves as
Ohio State out-shot LSSU, 37-29. Buckeye goalie Dustin Carlson
(1-0-0) had 27 saves in his first win of the season.
The Lakers play host to Windsor in an exhibition game at
7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25.
