BIG RAPIDS - Ferris State built a two-goal
lead early in the third period and held on to beat Lake Superior
State 4-3 Saturday. FSU and LSSU split the Central Collegiate
Hockey Association series.
FSU's Zach Redmond and Blair Riley scored unanswered goals in
the second period, and Bulldog Aaron Lewicki's eventual game-winner
at 2:23 of the third gave his team a 4-2 lead.
LSSU's Zac MacVoy scored his second of two goals at 13:14 of the
third period, trimming the Bulldogs' lead to one goal. MacVoy also
scored at 15:01 of the first period to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead.
Fred Cassiani scored LSSU's first goal at 1:07 of the opening
period and FSU's Mike Fillinger answered at 6:26.
Redmond's goal was the only power-play goal of the evening as
Ferris State (3-3-2 overall, 2-1-1-0 CCHA) finished 1-for-8
with the man-advantage. LSSU (2-3-1 overall, 2-2-0-0 CCHA) was
0-for-5 on the power play.
Brad Cooper assisted on both of MacVoy's goals. Tyson Hobbins
and Troy Schwab also picked up assists. MacVoy had two assists
during Friday's 2-1 victory and totaled four points for the
weekend.
Pat Inglis started in goal for the Lakers Saturday and
totaled 16 saves. He allowed two goals through 26:11. Brian
Mahoney-Wilson also gave up two goals and totaled 19 saves. Winning
goalie Pat Nagle had 26 saves.
Ferris State out-shot LSSU, 39-29.
The Lakers play host to Bowling Green State on Nov. 7-8 and will
be celebrating Parents Weekend.
