Lakers and Bulldogs split series

BIG RAPIDS - Ferris State built a two-goal lead early in the third period and held on to beat Lake Superior State 4-3 Saturday. FSU and LSSU split the Central Collegiate Hockey Association series.

FSU's Zach Redmond and Blair Riley scored unanswered goals in the second period, and Bulldog Aaron Lewicki's eventual game-winner at 2:23 of the third gave his team a 4-2 lead.

LSSU's Zac MacVoy scored his second of two goals at 13:14 of the third period, trimming the Bulldogs' lead to one goal. MacVoy also scored at 15:01 of the first period to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead.

Fred Cassiani scored LSSU's first goal at 1:07 of the opening period and FSU's Mike Fillinger answered at 6:26.

Redmond's goal was the only power-play goal of the evening as Ferris State (3-3-2 overall, 2-1-1-0 CCHA) finished 1-for-8 with the man-advantage. LSSU (2-3-1 overall, 2-2-0-0 CCHA) was 0-for-5 on the power play.

Brad Cooper assisted on both of MacVoy's goals. Tyson Hobbins and Troy Schwab also picked up assists. MacVoy had two assists during Friday's 2-1 victory and totaled four points for the weekend.

Pat Inglis started in goal for the Lakers Saturday and totaled 16 saves. He allowed two goals through 26:11. Brian Mahoney-Wilson also gave up two goals and totaled 19 saves. Winning goalie Pat Nagle had 26 saves.

Ferris State out-shot LSSU, 39-29.

The Lakers play host to Bowling Green State on Nov. 7-8 and will be celebrating Parents Weekend.
