Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State defeated
Wisconsin-Parkside 77-56 Sunday to get the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference one step closer to a women's
basketball sweep during the GLIAC vs. GLVC Challenge at Bud Cooper
Gymnasium.
The final game of the night pitted Michigan Tech of the GLIAC
against Lewis of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. MTU defeated
UW-P, and LSSU beat Lewis on Saturday.
LSSU's post tandem of Alyssa VanderWal and Jackie Armstrong was
too much for Wisconsin-Parkside (0-2). VanderWal and Armstrong
paced the Lakers (5-0) with a combined 33 points and 16 rebounds.
Armstrong totaled 10 boards for her first double double of the
season, while VanderWal was 5-of-7 at the free-throw line.
Laker point guard Ronlea Peterson scored a team-high 18 points,
making 5-of-9 three-point attempts, and had six rebounds. Guard
Emily Joseph was 5-of-6 at the line and totaled 15 points.
LSSU clawed its way back from an early six-point deficit with a
15-point run that included five points each from VanderWal and
Joseph. The Lakers led by as many as 14 points, 33-19, in the first
half and held a 38-26 lead at intermission.
Lake Superior State outscored Wisconsin-Parkside 15-6 during the
first five minutes of the second half, building a 21-point
command. The Lakers' biggest lead was of the game was 28 points.
LSSU shot 52.9 percent from the field and made 15-of-21 free
throws. The Lakers were 8-of-17 from behind the arc. They
out-rebounded UW-P, 39-30.
The Rangers shot 29.4 percent from the field and were 24-of-34
at the free-throw line. They made 2-of-14 three-point attempts.
The Lakers play a non-conference home game against Marygrove at
1 p.m. on Nov. 23.
