Box Score HILLSDALE - Hillsdale held Lake Superior State to a season-low
22 field goals to win Thursday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference men's basketball season opener, 85-67.
The Chargers (3-1 overall, 1-0 GLIAC) shot 59.4 percent from the
field in the second half to pull away from a five-point halftime
lead. They shot 50 percent (31-of-62) from the field for the game.
Ryan Kuhl scored 14 points and Tim VanOudheusden added 11 to
lead LSSU (2-3 overall, 0-1 GLIAC). The Lakers shot 45.8 percent
from the field, including 9-of-21 from three-point range.
LSSU's Mark Morse and Micah Hudson scored nine points each,
followed by Scott Perkins with eight. Morse also led the Lakers in
rebounds with seven.
Tony Gugino led Hillsdale with 20 points and 12
rebounds. Luke Laser added 17 points and five rebounds. The
Chargers out-rebounded the Lakers, 36-28.
Hillsdale, which never trailed in the game, went on a 17-5
run in the second half to take command of the game with less than
nine minutes remaining. The Chargers' biggest lead was 21 points
with 2:44 to go.
The Lakers play at Findlay at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Oilers are
ranked No. 1 in the USA Today/ESPN Men's DII Top 25 Poll.
