Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State relied on a second-half
opening 15-3 run to take control of Monday's non-conference men's
basketball game against Finlandia.
The Lakers (3-4) shot 58 percent from the field during the final
20 minutes and went on to beat the Lions, 85-56.
Tim VanOudehusden, who led the Lakers with 25 points and five
rebounds, ignited the second-half surge with a three-pointer
and went on to score nine points during the run. Ryan
Kuhl added four points and finished the game with 16. He also
led the Lakers in rebounds with nine.
LSSU led 34-29 at halftime.
Garrett Konuszewski finished with 11 points for the Lakers,
while Matt Carr and Kyle Hunt had seven each.
LSSU shot 46.9 percent from the field for the game, including
5-of-19 from three-point range. The Lakers were 20-of-31 at the
free-throw line and out-rebounded Finlandia, 44-34.
Tyler Gordon scored 13 points and Erik Bresett added 12 to lead
the Lions (1-7). Finlandia shot 39.7 percent from the field,
including 5-of-21 from three-point range, and made 5-of-8 free
throws.
The Lakers resume Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ashland.
