Lakers overpower Finlandia in non-conference tilt

SAULT STE. MARIE - Junior forward Tim VanOudheusden scored a career-high 25 points and junior guard Mark Morse tied a season high with 22 points to lead Lake Superior State to an 86-64 non-conference victory over Finlandia on Saturday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

VanOudheusden added 10 rebounds for a double double and contributed three steals. Morse was 6-for-8 from three-point range.

Ryan Kuhl finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Scott Perkins and Mike Rader had nine points each. Rader also totaled six rebounds and four assists.

Tyler Gordon led Finlandia (8-10) with 15 points. FU shot 34.9 percent from the field, including 3-of-20 from three-point range. The Lions were 17-of-28 at the free-throw line.

LSSU (7-14) shot 49.2 percent from the field, including 18-of-27 (66.7 percent) in the second half. The Lakers were 9-of-17 from three-point range and 15-of-21 at the free-throw line. They out-rebounded Finlandia, 49-33.

The Lakers resume conference play on Feb. 14 at Grand Valley State.
