Box Score HOUGHTON - Tenth-ranked Michigan Tech remained undefeated in the
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after beating the
Lake Superior State women's basketball team 74-56 Saturday at the
Student Development Center.
MTU (15-2 overall, 12-0 GLIAC) dominated the second half,
shooting 51.7 percent from the field and limiting LSSU to eight
field goals. The Huskies opened the second half with a 9-0 run to
pull away from a 31-26 halftime lead. They built their biggest
lead, 68-48, with 3:29 remaining.
Alyssa VanderWal totaled 12 points and seven rebounds to lead
LSSU (12-8 overall, 5-7 GLIAC). Nicole Marshall added 10 points,
and Ronlea Peterson and Jackie Armstrong scored nine points each.
Peterson also had six assists and five rebounds.
The Lakers shot 41.3 percent from the field for the game -- 38
percent in the second half. They made 5-of-18 three-point attempts
and 13-of-18 free throws.
Sarah Stream totaled 20 points and six assists to lead Michigan
Tech. Katie Wysocky added 13 points and 13 rebounds. The Huskies
shot 49.1 percent from the field, including 7-of-21 from
three-point range. The out-rebounded LSSU, 31-29.
LSSU returns home to play Findlay at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan.
29. The Lakers hope to avenge a three-point loss to the Oilers in
December.
