Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Tenth-ranked Indianapolis built a 21-point
halftime lead and held on to beat the Lake Superior State women's
basketball team 68-55 Saturday during the second round of
the UIndy Holiday Classic.
After leading 36-15 at halftime, Indianapolis (4-0) extended its
lead to 26 points early in the second half. LSSU (1-1) cut the lead
to 19 points, then closed within 10 (56-46) as Allison Jaynes made
two three-pointers during a 12-3 run. Indy maintained a
double-digit lead during the final five minutes.
Freshman Maria Blazejewski led LSSU with 13 points and five
rebounds, while Jaynes finished with 12 points. Ronlea Peterson
totaled 10 points and five assists, and Cassy Schemberger
led Laker rebounders with six.
Samantha Meissel was 8-for-12 from the field and led
Indianapolis with 21 points. Jessica Canary added 18 points and six
rebounds.
LSSU shot 20-of-46 from the field for 43.5 percent and made
8-of-17 three-point field-goal attempts. The Lakers were 7-of-12 at
the free-throw line.
Indy made 26-of-54 field-goal attempts for 48.1 percent and was
10-of-17 from behind the arc. The Greyhounds were 6-of-12 at the
line and held a 32-29 rebounding edge.
LSSU begins Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
action at home at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against Hillsdale.
