second-half surge for the second straight night, but couldn't catch
St. Leo, which won Saturday's Disney DII Men's Basketball Tip-Off
Classic second-round game, 86-78.
Four players scored in double figures for the Lakers (1-1), who
shot only 37.7 percent from the field. St. Leo (1-1) shot 53.8
percent from the field and made 19-of-30 second-half free throws to
protect its lead.
LSSU trailed 42-28 at halftime and fell behind by 21
points, 56-35, with 15 minutes remaining in the game. The Lakers,
who came from behind to beat Philadelphia on Friday, cut the
lead to 12 points, 58-46, with a 12-2 run and closed within
six, 71-65, with 3:54 to go. St. Leo regained its double-digit lead
after the Lakers missed four straight free throws.
Kyle Hunt led LSSU with 18 points, five rebounds and seven
assists. Garrett Konuszewski followed with 17 points and six
rebounds, and Scott Perkins totaled 16 points, five rebounds and
four assists. Micah Hudson added 13 points and five rebounds.
Jordan Prais led St. Leo with 24 points, 13 rebounds and five
assists.
St. Leo held a 40-39 rebounded edge, finished 21-of-33 at the
free-throw line and totaled six blocked shots. LSSU was 18-of-39 at
the line and 8-of-34 from three-point range.
Lake Superior State plays third-ranked Southwest Baptist at 7
p.m. Sunday at the Milk House.
