Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - For the third time this season, at least four
players scored in double figures for the Lake Superior State
women's basketball team.
Laker junior guard Nicole Marshall totaled 20 points and six
rebounds to lead a balanced offense as LSSU whipped Saginaw Valley
State 83-56 Saturday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. Junior guard Ronlea
Peterson added 17 points, six rebounds and three steals, followed
by freshman forward Maria Blazjewski with 16 points and seven
assists.
Junior guard Emily Joseph pitched in 15 points, nine assists and
six steals to round out the Lakers' impressive attack. Cassy
Schemberger was LSSU's top rebounder with 12.
LSSU (3-2 overall, 2-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) was 7-of-11 from three-point range while building a
44-28 halftime lead. Joseph was 3-for-3 and Marshall 2-for-3 from
behind the arc while combining for 22 points.
A 20-8 run midway through the second half put the game out of
reach, 71-41. LSSU went on to finish 11-for-27 from three-point
range and shoot 43.1 percent (25-of-58) from the field. The
Lakers were 22-of-24 at the free-throw line. They dominated
the boards, 49-27.
Brittany Burkhardt totaled 12 points to lead Saginaw Valley
State (2-5 overall, 0-3 GLIAC). The Cardinals shot 39.3 percent
from the field, including 2-of-8 from three-point range, and made
6-of-12 free throws.
LSSU and SVSU combined to total 42 turnovers.
Lake Superior State plays host to Ashland at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
