Box Score MIDLAND - Lake Superior State and Northwood traded
runs during the second half of Thursday's Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game.
Despite not scoring during the final 5:39, a 12-4 run gave the
Lakers the lead they needed to edge the Timberwolves 48-47 and snap
a three-game road losing skid.
LSSU (8-5 overall, 5-4 GLIAC) and NU (6-7 overall, 2-7 GLIAC)
traded 9-0 runs during the first 8 1/2 minutes of the second half,
leaving the Timberwolves with a 35-32 lead. LSSU's Emily Joseph
contributed a three-pointer, a field goal and four free
throws, and Nicole Marshall added a three-pointer as the
Lakers out-scored Northwood 12-4 and built a 44-39 lead with
8:39 left in the period.
Joseph made two free throws with 5:39 remaining to give the
Lakers a 48-41 lead. An injury-decimated Northwood team fought to
the finish and scored the final six points of the game.
Joseph led LSSU with 17 points, while Marshall finished with 11
and Maria Blazejewski had nine. The Lakers shot 33 percent from the
field, including 5-of-25 from three-point range. They made 13-of-14
free throws.
Jodi Ostergren scored 20 points, and Pam Wilson added 15 for
Northwood, which shot 37 percent from the field, including 1-of-9
from behind the arc. The Timberwolves made 12-of-14 free throws and
out-rebounded LSSU, 36-26. NU totaled 19 turnovers to LSSU's 15.
LSSU plays at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wayne State.
