Box Score DETROIT - Lake Superior State dominated Wayne State from start
to finish to win Saturday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference women's basketball game, 79-55.
The Lakers (9-5 overall, 6-4 GLIAC) garnered their
most-convincing win of the season while competing on the road.
They concluded a five-game road stretch on an upswing and head
into an important week of games against Upper Peninsula rivals
Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech with back-to-back wins.
LSSU shot 51 percent from the field, including 9-of-19 from
three-point range. The Lakers made 22-of-26 free throws and
out-rebounded Wayne State, 36-18. They led 34-25 at halftime.
Emily Joseph scored 24 points to lead a
balanced LSSU attack. Maria Blazejewski and Nicole Marshal
scored 16 points each, followed by Cassy Schemberger with eight and
Ronlea Peterson with seven. Peterson and Schemberger also totaled
nine rebounds each, followed by Marshall with five.
Joseph and Schemberger were a combined 14-of-14 at the
free-throw line. Joseph and Marshall sank four three-pointers
apiece. LSSU was 6-of-12 from behind the arc in the second half.
Felicia Thomas totaled 15 points and eight rebounds to lead
Wayne State (3-12 overall, 1-9 GLIAC). The Warriors shot 38 percent
from the field, including 5-of-14 from three-point range. They were
4-of-6 at the free-throw line.
LSSU plays host to NMU at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and takes on
nationally-ranked Michigan Tech at 1 p.m. Saturday. Both teams are
ahead of the Lakers in the GLIAC North Division standings.
