Box Score ALLENDALE - Grand Valley State proved that Thursday's hot
shooting in the second half against Saginaw Valley State was no
fluke. Two days after shooting 69.2 percent from the field in
the second half against the Cardinals, GVSU shot 60 percent during
the final 20 minutes against the Lake Superior State women's
basketball team.
GVSU made 15-of-25 second-half field-goal attempts to pull away
from a two-point halftime lead and beat LSSU, 73-49. Grand Valley
State's second-half effort included 8-of-12 shooting from
three-point range.
LSSU (7-5 overall, 4-4 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) came out swinging Saturday after suffering a
one-point loss at Ferris State on Thursday for its second straight
road loss. The Lakers dominated the first 10 minutes of the game,
but were held to nine field goals during the final 25:28 of play.
Emily Joseph, who was scoreless Thursday at FSU, bounced back
and led LSSU with 14 points. Maria Blazejewski followed with 13,
and Cassy Schemberger had a team-high seven rebounds.
Lake Superior State shot 33.3 percent from the field, including
4-of-16 from three-point range. The Lakers made 9-of-11 free
throws.
Briauna Taylor came off the bench to lead GVSU with 16 points.
Alex Stelfox totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds as four Grand Valley
State players scored in double figures. GVSU's bench out-scored
LSSU's, 33-7. Grand Valley State (9-3 overall, 6-1 GLIAC), which
has won six in a row at home, shot 50 percent from the field,
including 11-of-20 from three-point range. The Lakers made 8-of-8
free throws and out-rebounded LSSU, 35-29.
