Box Score SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Lake Superior State hockey faced off
against Notre Dame for its first Central Collegiate Hockey
Association match-up Thursday and lost, 4-2, in front of a sellout
crowd of 2,989.
At the end of the first period, LSSU and UND were tied, 1-1.
Sophomore defenseman Zach Trotman (3-1--4) scored the Lakers'
goal that tied that game at 7:35. Trotman's goal was assisted
by senior forward Will Acton (1-3--4) and answered a goal scored by
UND's David Gerths at 3:45.
Calle Ridderwall of Notre Dame (2-1-0 overall, 1-0-0
CCHA) was the first to score in the second period, tallying a
power-play marker at 2:37. LSSU (0-2-1 overall, 0-1-0
CCHA) answered with a power play goal from Acton, assisted by
Trotman at 4:57.
Billy Maday scored a short-handed game-winning goal at
11:29 of the second period. Mike Voran tallied Notre
Dame's final goal at 9:34 of the third period, giving the
Irish a two-goal cushion.
LSSU was 1-for-8 on the power-play and held Notre Dame to
1-for-4.
Lakers' goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson faced a total of
34 shots and made 30 saves. UND netminder
Mike Johnson stopped 26 of 28 shots.
