Box Score SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Lake Superior State closed out its
first Central Collegiate Hockey Association series with its second
straight 4-2 defeat at Notre Dame. LSSU is now 0-3-1
overall and 0-2-0 in the CCHA following Friday night's loss, during
which half of the game's goals were scored during the opening three
and one-half minutes.
Notre Dame (3-1-0 overall, 2-0-0 CCHA) started the scoring
with goals by Calle Ridderwall and T.J. Tynan 45
seconds apart in the first period. LSSU senior forward Rick
Schofield (3-3--6) brought the Lakers within one goal at 3:22 of
the first period. Schofield's goal was assisted by linemate
Will Acton (1-5--6).
UND took a 3-1 lead at 13:02 of the first period with a goal
scored by Ben Ryan. Ryan's marker was the game-winner
for the Irish.
Sophomore forward Domenic Monardo (2-3--5) scored from Acton at
the 44-second mark of the second period, bringing LSSU within one
goal of the Irish. Acton totaled four points during the series.
At 11:06 of the third, Anders Lee scored a power-play goal for
the Irish.
The Lakers were unable to capitalize on four power-play chances.
UND was 1-for-2 with the man-advantage.
LSSU senior netminder Brian Mahoney-Wilson (0-2-1 overall, 0-2-0
CCHA) made a total of 34 saves in 58 minutes of play. The
Lakers pulled Mahoney-Wilson in favor of an extra attacker for a
total of two minutes. UND goaltender Mike Johnson stopped
26 shots.
The Lakers will return home to play a non-conference series
against Colgate Oct. 22-23 during their third annual Pink in
the Rink. Friday's game will have a 7:05 p.m. start.
Saturday, the Lakers will play a 5:05 p.m. game. Following
Saturday's game, there will be a skate with the Lakers.
