Box Score MIDLAND - Cold first-half shooting prooved costly for the Lake
Superior State men's basketball team, which finished 1-1 during its
first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road trip of
the season after falling 86-77 at Northwood Saturday.
Northwood (2-6 overall, 1-1 GLIAC), which snapped LSSU's
six-game win streak, held LSSU to 10-of-31 from the field for 32.3
percent during the first half and built a 41-31 lead. The Lakers
(6-2 overall, 1-1 GLIAC) also shot 53.8 percent (7-of-13) at the
line during the opening 20 minutes.
The Timberwolves extended their lead to 15 points, 72-57, with
7:55 remaining in the second half. Lake Superior State, which came
from behind to beat Saginaw Valley State in overtime Thursday,
eventually trimmed the deficit to seven points, 77-70, with 1:36 to
go, but couldn't get any closer.
Kyle Hunt scored 21 points, and Micah Hudson added 14 to lead
LSSU. Derek Kinney came off the bench to total 13 points and eight
rebounds, and Justin Williams had 11 points and seven rebounds.
LSSU shot a much-improved 17-of-34 from the field during the
second half and 41.5 percent for the game. The Lakers were 8-of-22
from three-point range and 15-of-23 at the free-throw line. They
committed only nine turnovers.
NU's Bobby Lewis totaled 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the
game. He was one of four double-figure scorers for the
Timberwolves, who shot 49.1 percent from the field, including
13-of-27 from behind the arc. Northwood made 17-of-22 free throws
and led in rebounding, 40-36.
The Lakers return home and play host to Hillsdale at 1 p.m. on
Saturday, Dec. 11.
