Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio - The Lake Superior State women's basketball
team stormed to a 16-point first-half lead and coasted to
a 65-60 victory at Tiffin on Thursday.
LSSU (11-10 overall, 8-9 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) shot 53.3 percent from the field, including 7-of-13
from three-point range, to build a 42-26 halftime lead. Junior
Nicole Marshall scored 15 of her team-leading 19 points during the
first 20 minutes.
Marshall was 7-of-13 from the field and also totaled 10 rebounds
for the night.
Lake Superior State maintained a double-figure lead throughout
most of the second half and led by 11 points with 1:57 to go.
Marshall, Alyssa Loney and Emily Joseph hit their free throws
during the final minute to protect LSSU's lead.
An obvious key to the Lakers' win was holding GLIAC scoring
leader Mandy Jaeb to six points. Jaeb averages 19.7 points per
game.
Emily Joseph totaled 15 points, five rebounds and four assists
as four Lakers scored in double figures. Maria Blazejewski totaled
11 points, and Ronlea Peterson added 10 points and six rebounds.
Cassy Schemberger led LSSU at the boards with 12.
Jessica Harris totaled 18 points and 16 rebounds to lead Tiffin
(6-16 overall, 3-14 GLIAC). The Dragons shot 36.9 percent from the
field, including 6-of-14 from three-point range, and made 6-of-10
free throws.
LSSU shot 23.8 percent from the field in the second half and
41.2 percent for the game. The Lakers made 8-of-18 three-point
attempts and 15-of-21 free throws. They out-rebounded Tiffin,
40-35.
LSSU can improve its GLIAC record to .500 with a
win Saturday at Ashland.
