Box Score HILLSDALE - Lake Superior State and Hillsdale battled
wire-to-wire for the third time this season, and the Chargers once
again prevailed on their home court.
Third-seeded Hillsdale defeated No. 6 seed LSSU 78-68 Tuesday
during the quarterfinal round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament. The Lakers, making
their sixth appearance in the league tournament, ended
their season with a 14-14 record.
Hillsdale's Tyler Gerber made back-to-back three-pointers to tie
the game, 39-39, with 15:34 remaining. LSSU recovered to gain a
five-point lead, but Charger Brent Eaton killed the Lakers'
momentum with another three-pointer at 13:41.
Hillsdale (15-12) led 67-58 with 2:40 remaining. LSSU cut it to
five, 67-62, but committed a turnover during its opportunity
to close within one possession. The Chargers were 11-for-14 at the
free-throw line during the final 1:26.
Laker senior guard Scott Perkins totaled 21 points and 10
rebounds during his final collegiate outing. Sophomore Kyle Hunt
scored 17 points, followed by junior Andrew Charlesworth with 13
and senior Garrett Konuszewski with 12.
The Lakers shot 42.1 percent from the field, including 10-of-26
from three-point range. They made 10-of-17 free throws.
Luke Laser led Hillsdale with 19 points, followed by Eaton with
16 and Gerber with 14. The Chargers shot 39 percent from the field,
including 7-of-19 from behind the arc. They made 25-of-30 free
throws and out-rebounded LSSU, 43-31.
Perkins finished his career with 1,257 career points and 179
career three-pointers, which ranks seventh on LSSU's all-time list.
Konuszewski finished with 346 assists, which also ranks seventh on
LSSU's career list.
In other quarterfinal action Tuesday, it was #1 Findlay 100, #8
Ashland 90; #2 Grand Valley State 47, #7 Wayne State 44; #5 Ferris
State 65, #4 Saginaw Valley State 59.
