Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich. - Playing its third of four straight road games,
the Lake Superior State men's basketball team stayed with Michigan
Tech from start to finish and got a big three-pointer from Kyle
Hunt with 17 seconds left win 62-61 Thursday.
Hunt, who led the Lakers with 18 points, six rebounds and four
steals, scored after MTU's Alex Culy made a jumper for a 61-59
Huskies lead with 30 seconds to go. Culy missed a last-second
three-point attempt.
With the win, LSSU (9-5 overall, 3-4 GLIAC) snapped a two-game
losing streak that included one-sided road losses at Ferris State
and Grand Valley State. The Lakers have a chance to even their
GLIAC record Saturday at Northern Michigan.
Ali Haidar totaled 18 points and seven rebounds to lead Michigan
Tech (10-4 overall, 5-2 GLIAC). Culy finished with 14 points. The
Huskies shot 45.1 percent from the field, making 7-of-17
three-point attempts. They made 8-of-13 free throws and
out-rebounded LSSU, 32-25.
Freshman Derek Billing followed Hunt with 11 points, and Derek
Kinney and Justin Williams added nine points each. Williams was in
foul trouble throughout the game and fouled out with 1:20
remaining.
LSSU shot 52.4 percent from the field and made 9-of-21
three-point attempts. The Lakers were 9-of-17 at the free-throw
line.
Lake Superior State led 28-23 at halftime.
