Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Lake Superior State (7-11-7 overall,
5-8-6-4 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) defeated Bowling
Green State 4-2 Friday to secure its second road victory of the
season.
The Lakers, unbeaten (1-0-3) in their last four games, now have
25 points in the CCHA.
At the end of the first period the Lakers were tied 1-1 with the
Falcons (7-18-2 overall, 2-15-2 CCHA). LSSU sophomore defenseman
Zach Trotman (6-8—14) netted a power-play goal at 15:44.
Assists went to senior defender Matt Cowie (4-5—9) and senior
forward Rick Schofield (10-14—24).
Sophomore forward Domenic Monardo (9-13—22) gave LSSU a
2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 4:50 of the second period.
Monardo's goal was assisted by Schofield and Trotman.
Schofield picked up three assists for the night.
Senior forward Chad Nehring (4-3--7) netted the game-winning
goal 6:18 of the second period. It was assisted by senior forward
Tyson Hobbins (1-1—2). BGSU answered with a goal from
Nathan Pageau at 7:36 of the second period, trimming the lead to
3-2.
The Lakers rounded out their scoring at 18:51 of the third
period with a goal from senior forward Will Acton (5-9—14).
Schofield was credited with the only assist.
LSSU freshman goaltender Kevin Kapalka made 21 saves for the
night, stopping 10 in the third period. Andrew Hammond and Nick Eno
totaled 25 saves in the contest for BGSU.
The Lakers were 2-for-7 on the power-play and held BGSU to
0-for-4.
The Lakers and Falcons will be back in action Saturday at 7:05
p.m. BGSU is 11th in the CCHA standings with eight points.
