Box Score BIG RAPIDS - A Ferris State men's basketball team that
remembered last year's 26-point pounding by Lake Superior State on
its home court turned the tables and beat the Lakers 79-61
Thursday.
LSSU (8-4 overall, 2-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference), competing in its first league contest since Dec.
18, shot only 37 percent from the field and 44 percent at the
free-throw line. The Lakers made 4-of-20 three-point attempts and
11-of-25 free throws (8-of-19 during the second half).
Justin Keenan, named all-America in 2009-10 and the Division II
Bulletin Pre-Season National Player of the Year in 2010-11,
led Ferris State with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Darien Gay
followed with 22 points.
FSU (9-5 overall, 5-2 GLIAC), which led 42-36 at
halftime, shot 40 percent from the field, including 11-of-30
from three-point range. The Bulldogs made 18-of-32 free throws for
56 percent and out-rebounded LSSU, 49-43.
Kyle Hunt totaled 12 points and eight rebounds, and Khalid Wells
added 12 points and five rebounds to lead LSSU. Andrew Charlesworth
contributed 10 points. Hunt went into the game averaging a
league-leading 22.3 points per game against GLIAC opponents.
The Lakers play at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grand Valley State.
