Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State defeated Bemidji
State 2-1 in game two of its non-conference home hockey series
Saturday night at the Taffy Abel Arena. After salvaging the split,
the Lakers improved to 6-2-0 in one goal decisions and 3-1-0 in
non-conference play.
The Lakers started out strong with a power-play goal at 2:03 of
the first period. Junior defenseman Zach Trotman (4-5--9) netted
the power-play goal from senior foward Fred Cassiani (1-3--4) and
junior forward Domenic Monardo (3-5--8).
Bemidji State (4-6-0) came back to tie the game 1-1 at 14:22 of
the second period. Shea Walters netted his fifth goal of the season
from Radoslav Illo and Brance Orban. Walters' goal proved to be the
only Beavers goal of the night as LSSU sophomore goaltender Kevin
Murdock notched his first win as a Laker.
At 3:18 of the third period, senior Kyle Pobur (1-1--2), who
moved to forward from the blue line for the night, netted his first
goal of the season. Pobur's game-winning goal was assisted by
freshman forward Chris Ciotti (1-5--6).
LSSU was 1-for-4 on the power-play, holding BSU to 0-for-3. The
Lakers are now 5-0-0 when scoring a power-play and 5-1-0 when
opponents don't score a power-play goal.
Murdock made 20 saves for the Lakers. Andrew Walsh made 27 saves
for the Beavers.
The Lakers are on the road Nov. 11-12 at Ferris State.
