Box Score HILLSDALE - Lake Superior State wrapped up a seven-game stretch
of men's basketball road games with a 72-56 loss at Hillsdale
Saturday. The Lakers are 5-5 overall and 0-3 in the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference heading into next weekend's
GLIAC home opener against Saginaw Valley State.
Hillsdale (8-1 overall, 4-0 GLIAC) led the game from start to
finish. LSSU trimmed an eight-point halftime deficit to three
points, 37-34, on a Derek Billing three-pointer with 14:03
remaining in the second half. Hillsdale answered with a 13-2 run
and never let the Lakers get closer than eight points the rest of
the way.
Billing led LSSU with 15 points, and Kyle Hunt followed with 12
points and six rebounds. Starting center Cameron Metz, a sophomore
averagine nine points per game, did not play. Back-up post players
Mike Boylan and Lucas Holt combined to total nine points and two
rebounds.
LSSU shot 34 percent from the field, including 7-of-19 from
three-point range, and made 13-of-17 free throws.
Tyler Gerber scored 21 points, and Brent Eaton and Nick Washburn
added 11 each for Hillsdale. The Chargers shot 51.2 percent from
the field, including 6-of-13 from behind the arc, and made 24-of-33
free throws. They out-rebounded LSSU, 34-30.
Lake Superior State plays its rematch with the Cardinals at 3
p.m. on Dec. 17 at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
