Box Score MIDLAND - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team
concluded its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
road trip of the season with an 86-78 loss at Northwood on
Saturday.
The Lakers (5-4 overall, 0-2 GLIAC) have dropped three straight
decisions, including two in overtime, heading into their next game
Dec. 10 at Hillsdale.
Redshirt freshman Lucas Holt scored six points during a 13-3
LSSU run that enabled LSSU to come back from a 36-33 halftime
deficit and lead 46-39 with 16:01 remaining in the second half.
Both teams were hot during the second half with Lake Superior State
shooting 64 percent (16-of-25) and Northwood shooting 55.6 percent
(15-of-27).
Northwood's Booker Stoudmire hit a jumper at 6:19 and a
three-pointer at 5:50 for a 70-64 Timberwolf lead that proved to be
insurmountable for the Lakers. LSSU's Derek Kinney answered with a
layup at 5:32, but NU (4-3 overall, 1-1 GLIAC) led by at least six
points during the final five minutes.
Bobby Lewis finished with 16 points to lead Northwood, which
landed six scorers in double figures. The Timberwolves shot 50
percent from the field for the game, including 6-of-21 from behind
the arc, and made 22-of-32 free throws. They out-rebounded LSSU,
34-26 and forced 19 Laker turnovers.
Kyle Hunt totaled 17 points to lead five Laker scorers in double
figures. Kinney finished with 16 points before fouling out, and
Derek Billing had 13. Alex Williams scored 12 points, followed by
Holt with 11. LSSU shot 58.3 percent from the field, including
5-of-13 from three-point range, and made 17-of-23 free throws.
