Box Score FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Alaska scored a power-play goal at
19:49 of the third period to edge Lake Superior State 2-1 Friday
and hand the Lakers their first Game 1 loss of a series this
season.
The Lakers are 3-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Central Collegiate
Hockey Association. The Nanooks improved to 4-2-1 overall and
2-1-0 in the CCHA.
LSSU started the scoring with a first-period goal at 16:42
from sophomore forward Chris Ciotti (4-2--6). Freshman defenseman
Zach Leosch (0-3--3) and senior forward Domenic Monardo (2-5--7)
assisted on Ciotti's goal.
At 9:32 of the third period UAF tied the game 1-1 on a goal by
Colton Parayko.
At 18:17, sophomore defender Kevin Czuczman received a holding
penalty, giving the Nanooks a power-play opportunity at the close
of regulation. With 11-seconds left in the game UAF capitalized on
the power-play as Colton Beck netted the game-winning goal.
The Lakers were 0-for-4 on the power-play while UAF was
1-for-4. Junior netminder Kevin Murdock (1-2-0) made 37 saves
for the Lakers, marking a career high. Sean Cahill
totalled 17 shots on net.
Alaska out-shot LSSU 17-4 in the third period.
The Lakers and Nanooks face off tonight at 11:05 p.m.
