Box Score ALLENDALE - Lake Superior State sophomore guard Derek Billing
turned in his third 28-point performance in four games, but he was
one of only three starters who scored points as LSSU lost 75-63 at
Grand Valley State on Saturday.
In addition to Billing, starters Derek Kinney and Lucas Holt
scored 10 and two points, respectively for Lake Superior State.
Starters Kyle Hunt and Alex Willaims were scoreless. Kinney and
Williams both fouled out.
Grand Valley State (12-9 overall, 8-6 Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), playing in front of a home
crowd of 1,509 spectators and trying to avenge an early-January
12-point loss to LSSU, held a slim 31-29 lead at halftime. GVSU was
11-of-19 for 57.9 percent from the field during the second half.
GVSU built a 16-point command with 7:51 remaining in the game.
James Thomas totaled 18 points and nine rebounds to lead four
GVSU scorers in double figures. Breland Hogan scored 13 points and
had six assists before fouling out. GVSU shot 46.8 percent from the
field, making 7-of-16 three-point attempts, and was 24-of-36 at the
free-throw line.
Cameron Metz and Tony Harris came off the bench and combined to
score 17 points for LSSU (10-11 overall, 5-9 GLIAC). Lake Superior
State shot 37.5 percent from the field, including 3-of-13 from
three-point range, and made 24-of-29 free throws.
GVSU out-rebounded LSSU, 35-31.
