SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State opened men's
tennis conference play with a 9-0 loss to Ferris State Friday at
the Arbuckle Student Activity Center. The Lakers are now 3-6
overall and 0-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
play. Ferris State moved to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC.
No. 2 doubles duo of Travis Toth (St. Johns, Mich.) and Ryne
DuShane (Holland, Mich.) lost 9-8 (7-3). DuShane and Toth are 3-5
at No. 2 singles this season.
Felipe Baptista (Sau Paulo, Brazil) lost a close decision at No.
1 singles, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. Baptista is 6-4 at No. 1 singles for the
Lakers. At No. 3 singles, Joao Gaberiel-Oliveira (Sao Loureco,
Brazil) suffered a close second-set loss, falling 6-3, 7-6
(7-5).
The Lakers will continue GLIAC play at home Saturday against
Grand Valley State. The match starts at 10 a.m. in the SAC.
