Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Michigan had an answer for every
Lake Superior State attack and hung on to win Friday's
Central Collegiate Hockey Association game 6-4.
The Wolverines (8-13-2 overall, 5-10-2-2 CCHA), who snapped a
three-game losing skid, handed the Lakers (12-12-1 overall, 7-9-1-1
CCHA) their second straight loss and first home loss since Nov. 23.
They set the tone early when Luke Moffatt and Derek DeBlois scored
20 seconds apart early in the first period.
LSSU's Andrew Perrault (1-7--8) cut the lead to 2-1 with a
goal at 1:42 of the second period, but Moffatt struck again 1:28
later to regain at two-goal Wolverine lead. Three minutes later,
U-M's Phil De Giuseppe and LSSU's Bryce Schmitt
(1-2--3) traded goals. It was Schmitt's first goal as a
Laker.
Domenic Monardo (10-9--19) cut Michigan's lead to 4-3 by
scoring on a penalty shot at 10:58 of the third period.
LSSU's momentum was short-lived, however, as the
Wolverines' Jacob Trouba answered 23 seconds later.
During the final 1:26 of the game, LSSU's Eric Drapluk
(2-7--9) scored an extra-attacker goal to trim the margin to 5-4,
but U-M's Alex Guptill answered with an empty-netter.
Chris Ciotti (8-6--14) finished with two assists, while Drapluk
and Perrault contributed one each. LSSU goaltender Kevin Kapalka
(5-5-1) totaled 40 saves as LSSU was out-shot, 46-33. It was his
second 40-save outing in as many games.
Andrew Sinelli had two assists for the Wolverines.
Adam Janecyk totaled 29 saves for Michigan.
U-M was 0-for-2 on the power play, while LSSU finished
0-for-1.
