Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State netted 70 points for the
first time in nine games, and the Lakers' balanced attack led
to a 70-64 victory over Tiffin during Saturday's Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Bud
Cooper Gymnasium.
The Lakers (4-8 overall, 3-5 GLIAC), who are 3-2 during the
last five games, were led by Maria Blazejewski, who had 23
points and six rebounds. But it was sophomore guard Taylor Greene
who got LSSU off to its best offensive start in several weeks. She
scored eight of her career-high tying 12 points during the first
half to help LSSU maintain a 29-28 edge.
Lake Superior State never trailed after Kandace Crittendon
scored to tie it, 32-32, at 18:41 of the second half. The Lakers
were 10-of-12 at the free throw line during the final 1:35 while
protecting their lead.
LSSU's scoring effort included 15 points from Crittendon
and 11 from Raven Trammell, who was 3-for-5 from three-point range.
Katie Schild was scoreless, but compiled a team-leading seven
rebounds and six blocked shots.
LSSU shot 49 percent from the field, which is a season-high
against GLIAC competition. The Lakers were 4-of-12 from three-point
range and made 18-of-23 free throws. They attempted no free throws
during the first half.
Stephanie Kelly scored 14 points, and Jillian Adams and Jordan
Fraley added 13 each for Tiffin (6-6 overall, 3-5 GLIAC). The
Dragons shot 35.3 percent from the field, including 4-of-14 from
three-point range, and made 12-of-22 free throws. They
out-rebounded LSSU, 40-37.
LSSU travels to Saginaw Valley State on Jan. 10.
